DORIVAL DE OLIVEIRA'S SYSTEM

Dorival's Diva systemDorival's system close-up

This is Dorival de Oliveira's impressive Diva system (full information coming)

Information supplied by Dorival about an upgrade applied to his Divas.

On the Diva's slant side, between the tension bar and the speaker's border, you can observe the not activate part of the bass membrane, where the positive pole of the amplifier is connected with a fixation screw. You can observe that the membrane is stapled in some points to fix the black back fabric on the in the MDF structure.

This not active (vibrant) part of the membrane is divided in two parts: the inferior, a division with about 3 mm width (where the membrane was cut with a knife in a "L" fashion), and the superior where the speaker's positive bass cable is screwed , with about 1,20 m length.

The improvement consists of stapling (with a poster stapler) and weld in some points (with aluminum solder and proper flux for aluminum) two 10 x 0,2 mm silver ribbon (one in the inferior part, and other in the superior part where the speaker cable is screwed along his length.

You will obtain an incredible improvement in low frequencies reproduction , especially with relationship to the transient, definition and less hungry of Watts.

In the lack of silver ribbon a copper ribbon can be used. The ribbon section is not critical but I feel that = > equivalent than 16 AWG is OK.

I have been experimenting with the placement of the Divas (like everyone else I think).
This placement gives me the best bass response with the incredible deep soundstage I love so much from these speakers.
The room is 4.70 meters wide and 6.60 deep (2.55 high), placement of the Divas is now 30 cm apart from the sides and 1.80 meters from the back.
I know that this is very unusual and strange, but this seems the best position (for now - I know that the moving is
not over).

ANTHONY CLAXTON'S SYSTEM

I was delighted to find mention of your website in Stereophile! My Divas function flawlessly and musically in a system consisting of:
Sonic Frontiers SFL-2 preamp, Audio Research PH3SE phono preamp, JRDG Model 8T amp, with Purist Audio, Cardas, Nordost cables. Sources include Sony 777ES SACD player, Theta Basic 2/Sonic Frontiers SFD-2 for CD, VPI HW19Mk4/Graham 1.5t/Van Den Hul Frog/PLC for records, Sony S7000 for DVD. Surround processor is Sherwood 9080R. Surround speakers are Acoustat 2's that my wife found at a garage sale for $100! Center channel speaker is Martin-Logan Logos. Center channel driven by Rowland Model One in bridged mode, surrounds driven by LLano Audio A200. TV is a 60" Proscan. I thank you for launching this site and look forward to an Apogee information explosion!

Thought you might like this picture for your web site. Apogee Diva's, Sony XBR-50 Color TV, Thomas the Train complete set today's Kids-Infant Toddler Playland: Acts as a barrier to protect the speakers, Tootsie Toy - Colored wood Bloocks form the train station in the foreground - Dunn Loring, Virginia 1997

I started out bi-amping with two Aragon 2004's. Then I got two more Aragon 2004's and ran each one in balanced mode, still bi-amping the system, but now instead of one stereo amp per speaker I was using two (run the balanced output of the DAX to each of the two inputs of the amps and connect each speaker to the positive terminals of each amp) - bridged and bi-amped.
Then I went to two Aragon 4004's. Eventually went to two 4004's for the woofers (bridged) and two 4004 MkII's for the high end (bridged) - again bridged and bi-amped now with 4004's instead of 2004's.
I have been recently selling off my Aragon amps and I am awaiting the arrival of two Krell KSA-250's. I plan of bi-amping the speakers with these amps next.
Preamp was originally a Rowland Coherence One now a Rowland Consumate (although I also own a Krell KRC-HR). Turntable was Goldmund Studio and now a Goldmund Reference.
Have usually used Koetsu's, Onyx, Rosewood and Urishi.
My CD play was a California Audio Labs Tercet Mk III, now it is a CL-15 Balanced.
Ancillary equipment: Nakamichi Dragon Cassette deck, Sequerra FM Reference tuner (I have two one old one with a Panalizer and a new Day Sequerra without).
I have various DVD (Sony DVP-S7000 and DVP-S7700), LD (Magnavox 584) and Video tape units (Sony SLV-5U sVHS, SLHF-1000 Beta, and Sony 8mm decks), Revox A77 MKIV with Advent Dolby) and two Burwen Transient noise eliminators (so I can run them in bridged mode).
